I know. It’s happening. I’ve been trying to resist all things fall a little longer…and I have in the fact that not one can of pumpkin has been opened and I’ve left my leggings in the closet. So far.
But today, when I made rice krispie treats, cinnamon and nutmeg and pumpkin pie spice couldn’t not be added to the browned butter. I mean…seriously.
I know. It’s kind of weird that my quick little give in to fall coincides with a weather warm-up. It still feels right. I’m sort of blaming the stress of sitting at the title company yesterday, at an afternoon appointment to sign closing documents…and waiting hours for the bank to actually finish writing up the documents. I’m still crossing my fingers that things are recorded, and I’m a real life homeowner again.
It’s been a little of a stressful week…and I’m coping with fall tastes. Deal.
I have a not so secret love for rice krispie treats that I think might stem from just how seriously simple they are. Even by taking the extra few minutes to brown butter and melt marshmallows on the stovetop, these rice krispie treats come together quickly…and impress people nonetheless. This makes me want to throw one more summer weekend party. And also sit down with the entire pan, my husband and a movie. Conflict.
Conflict that I can actually deal with though…because there are zero incompetent banks involved. Just fall flavors and a childhood favorite dessert.
Also… is it September yet?
Fall Spiced Rice Krispie Treats
1/4 cup butter
1 bag (10 ounces) marshmallows
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1 box (12 ounces) Rice Krispies cereal
Brown butter over medium heat in a large skillet with high sides. When browned, add marshmallows, and stir (using a wooden spoon) to melt until smooth. Add spices, and stir to incorporate evenly. Add cereal and stir to combine. Press into the bottom of a greased 9×13″ baking pan. Let cool before cutting to serve.

But I’m so glad you did. I am PSYCHED for fall and all the flavors it brings!!
What a great idea! I actually got pumpkin out for the first time this week. I had pumpkin oats in a jar…..I just couldn’t hold off any longer. ;) I posted a rice krispy treat recipe today too. It’s delicious, check it out at http://www.hungryhealthygirl.com/2012/08/24/day-6-back-to-school-snacks-and-i-saved-the-best-for-last/
I love this version! I want fall SO bad.
This is the 2nd recipe I’ve seen blogged today that has pumpkin pie spice. Now I’m majorly craving fall! I’ve never added any spices to Rice Krispies treats – great idea!
Fantastic idea! I am counting down the days till pumpkin lattes and tall boots mark my mornings.
I love these! I’m handing myself over to fall early. I love summer but am over the intense heat.
These sound so wonderful! I have been on a fall kick to lately and I don’t know why. My guess is chilly mornings!!!
Yes! Love the fall version of rice krispies! PS: Your spoons are adorable!
I’d be all over these things. In fact, if I want to eat them all myself, all I’ll have to do is use your recipe because Dudette’s such a purist. Hmmm, not a bad idea. :)
Such a great idea!
I can’t wait for Fall too! I actually have some rice krispy cereal left over and you just gave me a good idea on what to make next!
What a great idea! I am so ready for fall flavors! :)
I love this version, so good!! Not quite fall here in CO yet, supposed to be 95 today :(
Yikes! Stay cool :)
This is a great idea! Can’t wait to make it and add some fall colors to the mix too!
I am so so ready for fall! It’s so hot on the east coast and I’m ready for hot coffees, sweaters and boots!
Love Rice Krispy treats, and the addition of spice sounds so nice. I have to agree that I am not ready for fall at all, which is good because the end of this week is going to be 90 degrees. Bring on the unusually warm fall and winter!
