I like you.
Have I failed to mention that lately?
Shoot.
You and your nice sayings and dinner ideas make my day.
Seriously. I'm super pleased that you're here.
I made you cookies. These cookies are red and festive. I happen to think that they are all sorts of fantastic when paired with hot chocolate and eaten curled up on the couch with a good book.
(Clearly, cookies are best with chocolate and books. It means the world is quiet and tasty and leaving you the heck alone. Score.)
I think you need more time for you in your days. And these cookies in your house definitely demand it. Add them to your baking list already. (It's okay if they bump something off. I won't tell anyone.) Then, relax.
Red Velvet Chocolate Chip Cookies
recipe from How Sweet It Is
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp red food coloring
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Cream butter and sugars. Add egg and vanilla, mixing well. Beat in food coloring.
Stir in flour, baking soda, salt and cocoa powder until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
Drop by rounded teaspoon onto an ungreased cookie sheet and bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 10-12 minutes. Let cool slightly before transferring to wire racks.

Oh, Sarah, that first picture has got me drooling! These cookies look so delicious and festive. Yum, yum, yum! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteRed velvet is everywhere this year. I don't remember seeing it in cookie form, though. These are wonderful; like little packages of fun (which is much better than the huge fondant ribbon wrapped cakes I saw at Sam's Club this morning). I like the idea of eating just one small morsel of red velvet versus an entire cake (of course, you will notice I said "idea"....there's no telling what reality will bring!)
ReplyDeleteI have seen lots of Red velvet cakes and Red velvet cookies is so new to me. The colour of the cookies look very elegant!
ReplyDeleteOh my word can I please eat the batter and the cookies?! I am red velvet obsessed and these cookies are just calling my name. I think I've died and gone to heaven after looking at your delicious cookies. YUM!
ReplyDeletethese are just dreamy.....and oh how I love when the world is quiet and tasty and leaving me alone....
ReplyDeleteI've never had red velvet anything! But with your recipe, this could soon change... ;)
ReplyDeleteYou know what, why not?? I need a day to sit and sip hot chocolate with my girl instead of always DOING something. I love the cookies you share. We still enjoy a banana chocolate chunk muffin from time to time...
ReplyDeleteoooh I love this!

ReplyDeleteI like your cookies. And your blog. These look fantastic! :)
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you for making me cookies, that is so sweet of you! :) These cookies look so delicious. I'm looking for a new cookie recipe to bake for my coworkers, I think i've found a winner. Perhaps some red velvet and green velvet to be festive?
ReplyDeleteUmm...OH. MY. GOLL.
ReplyDeleteI like you too and I'm so happy that you made me cookies. :)
ReplyDeleteThey're beautiful, festive and perfect for a cookie exchange. Thank you for sharing this recipe and for the really sweet way you started the post!

ReplyDeleteI love the looks of these cookies, and the dough... I might be tempted to eat the dough because it's so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous! Nice and red and festive, with chocolate chips, you just can't go wrong.
ReplyDeleteI like you too! Especially when you hand me a batch of these cookies!
ReplyDeleteHow did you know that I was looking for a Red Velvet Cookie recipe? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWe love you. And your cookies. And your pancakes!
ReplyDeleteOh my...love these! And they look so gorgeous with the unexpected color...lovely :)
ReplyDeleteThese cookies look so good, I love everything Red Velvet and I am sure these won't disappoint, can't wait to try them!
ReplyDeleteI bet these would be pretty with white chocolate chips too!!! Thanks for the recipe!!!
ReplyDeleteCut the baking soda and salt in half and these came out great! I also used gel food coloring so I added a 1/4 Tbsp of water.
ReplyDeleteI am defiently going to try them and I am going to make a batch with white chochlate chips too!
ReplyDeleteRed velvet as a cookie? Love the idea. My momma and I were just discussing red velvet and how we'd both like to try making it with beets. If I get daring enough to do it, I'll let you know how it goes!
ReplyDeletegreat idea!
ReplyDeleteJust made these, with 2/3 cup of Ghirardelli White Chocolate Chips instead of 1/2 cup regular chips. They came out tasting great, but a little crunchier than I like. Any advice on how to make them chewier?
ReplyDelete@Jon: I love the white chocolate chip idea! For a chewier cookie, try adding an additional egg yolk.
ReplyDeleteI made these today and, to my knowledge, used the recipe exactly as written (unless I used a wrong measuring cup somewhere). But my cookies didn't flatten :( They baked up as ball cookies. I could have stuck a straw into the batter and sucked it down, it was SOOOO good! Seemed just the right consistency, so I don't know what went wrong :( I will definitely be trying again soon! ;) LOVE red velvet!
ReplyDeleteMine did the same thing :(
DeleteI made these last night & they taste great! But my dough didn't seem "wet" enough. It was very very dry before cooking. Mine also did not flatten when cooked, kept a lumpy/mis-shapen look. I'm not entirely sure if I'll try these again because I felt like they were too dry for my taste. But maybe I'll keep at it.
ReplyDeleteMe too, I might add a little less cocoa or try the crisco butter flavor sticks instead of butter next time.
Deletemine came out exactly the same! at least they were still yummy!
DeleteI have made these cookies 3 times in the past 2 weeks and switch between choc. chip and white choc. chips... these cookies are bangin! My new favs... along with a tons of my friends and families!
ReplyDeleteI always add a tad bit more butter to make them not as dry..
ReplyDeleteThese are delicious! I accidently used 2c chocolate chips...best mistake ever! Thanks for this creative recipe :D
ReplyDeleteThese look delish! I WILL be making these for my 7 other kinder partners for Valentine's Day. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMy only question is: Does the butter need to be softened before being used? I can't imagine the butter creaming well with the sugar when it's straight from the fridge...
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to bake these! My only question is how much does this recipe yield? Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteThis recipes yields about 4 dozen. Enjoy!
DeleteThe batter is very thick and morsels didn't stick very well... but all in all, still a yummy recipe!
