I like college football on Saturdays. A lot. A whole heck of a lot.
And when we order pizza I eat it straight from the box. Plates kind of get in the way of the relationship between the pizza and my face.
That was a weird way of wording things.
New topic. Jeans. Super worn. Kinda hole-y. It gives them character. And a whole lotta comfort.
No fuss. No frills. Simple is best.
Except for when it comes to rice krispie treats.
Whaaaaa???
Backwards. I know. But fancypants rice krispies are the real deal. A little brown butter. A little sea salt. Mind blowing.
I like to eat them in my comfy jeans. While hoping Alabama loses.
I'm going to stuff a few more in my face right now in case I offended you and your Alabama football team.
Brown Butter and Sea Salt Rice Krispies
recipe adapted from Smitten Kitchen
6 cups Rice Krispies
1 10 oz. bag marshmallows
1 stick butter
1/4 tsp sea salt
Mix Rice Krispies cereal and sea salt in a large bowl. Set aside. To brown butter, heat in a skillet over medium-low heat.
Continue stirring after butter is melted. It will eventually begin to foam, then turn a brown color and smell nutty.
Stay with the butter and stir occasionally so it does not burn. When butter has browned, reduce heat to low and add marshmallows.
Stir with a silicone spoon until marshmallows have melted.
Pour melted marshmallows and brown butter into the bowl of cereal and sea salt. Mix well.
Press into a greased 9x13" pan and let sit at room temperature for at least a half hour before cutting.

ReplyDeleteThis combinations of salty and sweet remind a desert my wife makes with pretzels for the crust and a lemonade/cool whip topping.
These are like the adult gourmet version of the childhood favorite. I always get so stressed making rice crispies because I feel like the mixture will harden too much before I can press it into the pan, so I'm always frantically stirring the marshmallow/butter mixture into the rice crispies.
